Iceland’s Prime Minister Makes Airwaves Playlist; Likes Björk, Rihanna and Milkywhale
Iceland’s Prime Minister, Katrín Jakobsdóttir, has divulged a Spotify playlist uniquely made to commend the Iceland Airwaves twentieth commemoration release.
Her rundown incorporates everything from great craftsmen like Kate Bush and David Bowie, to current stars Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna, hits singles like “Back For Good” by UK Boy band Take That, and some Icelandic profound cuts like GusGus banger “Include This Song” (12″ variant determined) and “Rhubarb Girl” by euro-pop move party team Milkywhale, nearby tracks by Robyn, Kendrick Lamar, Logo Pedro, Prins Póló and GDRN.
There is, obviously, a Björk track on there: Katrín selected a protected decision in swooning 90s hit single “Play Dead.”
Politically shrewd audience members will think about whether the decision of David Bowie’s “This Is Not America” sends a political message. “Space Cowboy” by Jamiroquai, maybe less so.
Of the celebration itself, Katrín says: “Iceland Airwaves has for a long time been a critical milestone in Iceland’s social scene and is an incredible stage for craftsmen, not at all best in class specialists. I have constantly adored the environment in Reykjavík amid the celebration – it’s electric.”
